2026 CACHE COUNTY EMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Do You Need an Emissions Test?
Here’s a practical guide for vehicles registered in Cache County. Book mobile testing when your vehicle is due, and use the official links below for unusual vehicles or exemption questions.
Quick note: An emissions test may be completed up to two months before registration renewal. After a passing test, the certificate is transmitted electronically to the DMV.
2026 vehicle model-year requirements
| Vehicle model year | 2026 emissions test |
|---|---|
| 2026–2021 | Not required |
| 2020–1996 | Biennial — required in the calendar year matching the model year’s odd/even parity |
| 1995 and older | Not required |
For 2026, that means eligible even-numbered model years in the 2020–1996 range are due. Eligible odd-numbered model years in that range are due in 2027.
Diesel and heavy vehicles
Cache County’s official exemption list includes diesel vehicles model year 1997 and older and diesel vehicles with a GVWR greater than 14,001 pounds. Other vehicle-specific rules can apply, so confirm unusual diesel, commercial, or modified vehicles with the county or Utah DMV before relying on an exemption.
Common exemptions
Common exemptions include new vehicles with an MSO, farm vehicles, motorcycles and motor-driven cycles, off-highway vehicles, electric vehicles, vintage vehicles model year 1982 and older, custom vehicles, and vehicles model year 1995 and older.
Additional exemptions and special cases apply to implements of husbandry, non-highway maintenance or construction vehicles, certain heavy vehicles, novel vehicles, and roadable aircraft. Confirm your situation with the official resources below before relying on an exemption.
Vintage vehicles and residents temporarily out of state
Vintage vehicles model year 1982 and older are exempt. A vintage vehicle model year 1983 or newer may need either proof of an emissions inspection or collector-vehicle insurance. Review Form TC-745 for current affidavit requirements.
If you are temporarily out of state, a Cache County resident whose vehicle is required to test may be eligible for a county deferment. Contact Cache County or review the Utah DMV inspections page for the current process.
