2026 DAVIS COUNTY EMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Do You Need an Emissions Test?
Here’s a practical guide for vehicles registered in Davis County. We provide mobile testing when your vehicle is eligible for a mobile inspection; some vehicles require an in-shop tailpipe test instead.
Quick note: An emissions test may be completed up to two months before registration renewal. After a completed test, results are transmitted electronically.
Some vehicles need emissions testing—but not mobile testing.
Mobile Emissions does not perform tailpipe / Two Speed Idle (TSI) tests. If your vehicle falls into one of these groups and is due for testing, please take it to a permitted in-shop emissions station:
- Gas vehicles from model years 1968–1995 (model year 1967 and older is exempt)
- Model years 1996–2007 with a GVWR over 8,500 lbs
- Model year 2008 and newer with a GVWR over 14,000 lbs
2026 vehicle model-year requirements
| Vehicle model year | 2026 emissions test |
|---|---|
| 2026 | Not required |
| 2025 | Not required |
| 2024 | Required |
| 2023 | Not required |
| 2022 | Required |
| 2021 | Not required |
| 2020–1968 | Required |
| 1967 and older | Not required |
For vehicles less than six model years old, even-numbered model years test in even years and odd-numbered model years test in odd years. Older vehicles generally require annual testing when not exempt.
Diesel vehicles
Davis County states that diesel vehicles model year 1998 and newer may require testing. Diesel vehicles from 1997 and older and heavy-duty diesel vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR are listed as exempt. Confirm unusual diesel, weight, or modification questions with Davis County before booking.
Common exemptions and special vehicles
Common exemptions include new vehicles with an MSO, implements of husbandry, farm vehicles, model year 1967 and older vehicles, motorcycles, off-highway vehicles, electric vehicles, vintage vehicles from 1982 and older, custom vehicles, novel vehicles, and roadable aircraft.
Additional rules apply to restored-modified vehicles and some heavy or diesel vehicles. A vintage vehicle from 1983 or newer may need proof of emissions inspection or collector-vehicle insurance; review Form TC-745.
Temporarily out of state?
Davis County residents who are temporarily out of state may be eligible for a deferment when an inspection is required. Review the Davis County out-of-state emissions deferral page for current forms and instructions.
